We all hope no harm will ever come to your treasured possessions, but if the worst happens, you want to be fully protected. We work very closely with our partners at Safeguard to provide an outstanding valuation service for our customers.
From a recently purchased watch, a special piece of jewellery or inherited silverware, we know your possessions are precious and we want to help you protect them.
A professional valuation from Mappin & Webb is invaluable for insurance and thanks to the SafeMark™, could even help you recover stolen items.* Our service is simple and good value, as we charge a fixed fee for valuing your jewellery, not a percentage of its value.
Hopefully, you'll never have to make a claim for a lost or damaged watch or piece of jewellery, but if you do, our valuation will help make the process as simple and efficient as possible. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Your Mappin & Webb valuation
Most insurance companies ask for proof of ownership and a professional valuation of items you want covered. Often, they also need good quality photographs and detailed descriptions. Our valuation gives you all this and more, making it easy for you to prove the value of your jewellery to your insurer, and, if any items are recovered by the police, you can show beyond doubt that you're the rightful owner.
- Our experts examine your pieces, and provide a written valuation. This is a legal document you can use for insurance.
- We take digital photographs, note any distinguishing features and write a full description of each item. This makes it much easier to identify your jewellery if it's lost or stolen.
- For most items, a SafeMark™ can be applied. This is a tiny, discreet mark, applied exactly like a hallmark, which clearly identifies your jewellery. Each SafeMark™ is permanently recorded in a secure national database**, providing absolute proof of your ownership.
- If your jewellery is ever lost or stolen, you simply notify SafeGuard. The details are put onto a constantly updated register (for a small charge). Then, if your jewellery is recovered, the police can check the SafeMark™ against the register and return your treasures to you.
** In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, your details are kept entirely confidential and can only be released to the police or your insurers with your permission.
