There’s no doubt about it, whether consciously or subconsciously, we all seek a little bit of luxury. Journey into the world of luxury jewellery and build your own enviable jewellery collection.
Human desire is natural, and we all seem to be wired in some way or another to desire luxury. For each of us our representation of luxury is very personal. For some it’s an item for the home such as a luxury soft furnishing or kitchen gadget; others may desire clothing or jewellery; and there are those that seek an activity to enjoy such as a holiday. Each has an entry level point at which we would deem the item a ‘luxury.’
Luxury jewellery has an undeniable appeal. Its beauty is mesmerising, with fine craftsmanship that has us in awe of the delicate detailing and intricate settings. Gemstones with the finest colour, cuts, and clarity have a wonderful eye-catching appeal and, much like a magpie, we can’t help but be drawn to these wonders of the earth.
From the very beginning…
My introduction to jewellery began as a child, as I explored my mother’s jewellery box. I was desperately seeking something to add to my collection of roleplay clothes that I had pilfered from her to create a stage show and my own fantasy world. The idea of ‘elevating a look’ started early! Of course, the jewellery collection that I was first privy to was merely costume jewellery that my mother had little or no use for anymore…it wasn’t the ‘real’ jewellery collection. In fact, the ‘luxury’ jewellery items were a few steps and more away – they were kept in the jewellery collection for ‘special occasions,’ pieces that I could admire up close but were certainly not appropriate for my fancy dress occasions.
My grandfather was in the Royal Navy and his job took him to many a far-flung destination from which he often returned with a piece of jewellery for my grandmother. This trait seemed to filter down to my father who also took great pleasure in investing in beautiful jewellery pieces for my mother. I found it fascinating to explore the coloured gemstones, from sapphires to aquamarine, diamonds, and opals. I was in awe of the collection and the unique designs of each piece and my passion for jewellery was sealed.
I’m sure that there are many of us that share a similar story, and have a longing to build an impressive collection of our very own, but just where is the best place to start when stepping things up a notch? I invited our jewellery buyers to share their wisdom and the resounding answer was ‘Luxury Essentials’.
