Continuing their rich legacy of high-functioning sports watches, TAG Heuer has revisited their Aquaracer Series with the arrival of The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200. A true signature of TAG Heuer timepieces, the Aquaracer Professional 200 is a bold and sophisticated companion designed for a fast-paced, unforgettable life.
We’re delighted to be speaking with our Expert Buyer, Sophie Conroy, as she explores the history and the function of the timepieces along with the exciting new features they have to offer.
The Aquaracer has remained an iconic collection for TAG Heuer, could you tell us a bit about its history and the power of this collection?
TAG Heuer debuted the Aquaracer range in 2004, paying homage to their original diving watch from the 1970s, offering customers a variety of various models. TAG Heuer then expanded their Aquaracer collection in 2009, establishing the Aquaracer as one of the most dependable adventurer’s watches on the market.
What would you say are the biggest differences between the Aquaracer Professional 300 and the Aquaracer Professional 200?
The new Aquaracer Professional 200 models are available in both automatic and quartz movements, unlike the Professional 300 series, which is only available in automatic movements. These models offer a slimmer profile for enhanced comfort and are available in a 40mm and 30mm case size, with brushed and polished surfaces that deliver sharp geometry and a strong appearance in a reduced profile.
The diving scale is still visible on the bezel, but it is now carved into the steel insert rather than a ceramic insert seen on the Aquaracer Professional 300 models. The new compass case back design, which replaces the scaphander diving helmet that has been featured on Aquaracer case backs since 2002, is included on all Aquaracer Professional 200 models and was added to symbolise the go-anywhere spirit of exploration.
What type of customer do you see buying these models?
The Aquaracer Professional 200 is a versatile timepiece that appeals to both male and females, with a robust yet professional feel making it the ideal go-anywhere luxury tool watch.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
The automatic models in the collection are my favourites. They are distinguished by their fume gradient dials, which are not found on quartz models. The somewhat smoky finish adds intensity to the durable watch while remaining simple and elegant.
To highlight the true ability of the Aquaracer Professional 200, TAG Heuer have collaborated once again with legendary filmmaker Thierry Donard, director of the celebrated extreme sport series of films Nuit de la Glisse. The campaign highlights the adventurous spirit of the timepiece, demonstrating its ability to withstand extreme sports such as speed flying, ice skiing and ice climbing in some of the worlds wildest and most awe-inspiring natural locations.
With eleven new references at launch, The Aquaracer Professional 200 opens up a new chapter in the storied tale of TAG Heuer watches, designed and engineered for life’s greatest adventures.
