It’s already been an exciting year for Cartier, with the abundance of new releases at this year’s Watches and Wonders, followed by another exciting release of the Cartier Santos with a smoky green dial. We sat down with Elizabeth Milward, one of our expert Buyers at the Watches of Switzerland Group, to discuss the new model.

The stunning additions to the Cartier Santos family complement the existing collection by introducing an exciting new colourway, and by extending the sizing offered on a current favourite. The new dial colour is a vibrant smoky green with an iridescent sunray brushed finish. In recent years green dials have had an incredible surge in popularity making these Cartier launches perfectly on trend for 2023. The new dial variation is available in both a medium and large case size and in addition to the steel bracelet each one features a green alligator interchangeable ‘QuickSwitch’ strap. The new launches from Cartier also include a size extension to the smoky blue dial Santos which is now available in a medium model size giving increased versatility to this much-loved family.

What do you think inspired the new model and its striking smoky green dial?

By introducing a smoky green dial Cartier have given the Santos family a contemporary update. With green dials going from strength to strength and increasing in popularity Cartier chosen to develop a new colour way that is certain to be popular with watch enthusiasts everywhere. Given the rich green hues I like to think the colour was inspired by the stunning scenery and nature surrounding ‘La Chaux-de-Fonds' a small Swiss city in the Jura Mountain region where Cartier have a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

What is your favourite feature of the Cartier Santos and why?

My favourite feature of the Cartier Santos family is that many of the models include an additional ‘QuickSwitch’ interchangeable strap. This feature is invaluable as it gives you alternative ways to wear the watch and allows you to easily change the aesthetic of the timepiece whenever you see fit. By being able to switch from bracelet to strap the Santos family can be easily adapted to suit your social calendar.

Who would you say the piece appeals to the most?

Given the ageless nature and versatility of the Santos family I believe they have an incredibly broad appeal. These launches would be perfect for anyone who wants a stunning watch with timeless appeal, anyone who wants a timepiece they can wear daily and refresh to suit their lifestyle. Ultimately, I would recommend these pieces to anyone who wants a watch they can cherish for years to come from an incredible brand that has a global reputation for quality, expertise and craftsmanship.

What can we expect from Cartier in the upcoming year?

I will try and answer this question without giving anything away. Cartier really exceeded every expectation this year at Watches & Wonders with awe-inspiring timepieces that showcase exactly why they are world-renowned Watchmakers. Without divulging too much I will finish by saying there are some truly beautiful pieces in the works and 2023 will certainly prove to be a fantastic year for the brand.
