TAG Heuer Pays Tribute to Motor Racing Legend with the New TAG Heuer F1 Senna Special Edition
By Amanda Evans | 3 minute read
TAG Heuer has always had a strong heritage in motorsports, sharing the pursuit of precision and cutting-edge performance with this hugely competitive and thrilling industry.
As the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch Partner of Formula 1, this luxury Swiss watch brand has an ever-expanding TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection and a deep-rooted history that embraces the motorsports legends of this world. Ayrton Senna became a TAG Heuer ambassador in 1988 and was already victorious in the world of motorsports, claiming his sixth Grand Prix victory of the season in 1991 and subsequently winning the Formula 1 World Championships. As TAG Heuer welcomes the trendsetters today in a host of ambassadors at the top of their game, the brand continues to celebrate Senna, a timeless and iconic legend, and continued source of inspiration.
30 years ago, Senna’s rise to fame had peaked as he became the youngest Formula 1 driver to win three world championships. As a tribute to this astonishing feat and in celebration of Ayrton Senna’s achievements, TAG Heuer and the Senna brand have collaborated once again to launch a new Special Edition from the TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection.
We invited our Senior Watch Buyer, Elizabeth Milward, to share her thoughts on this latest addition to the TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection.
What are the key features of the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition?
The embossed leather strap, which pays homage to the ‘S/EL’ that Senna wore on his TAG Heuer, is featured on both the new model. TAG Heuer were the first to create this distinctive strap, with its striking S-shaped design being instantly recognisable. The grey anthracite dial features a date window at 4 o’clock and the black leather strap is contrasted with bold yellow stitching, a colour theme that pays homage to Senna's signature colours. The new model features a 43mm black DLC steel sandblasted casing, and ultra-black ceramic bezel.
What is the significance of the number 400 which is engraved on the ceramic bezel?
On the bezel, the number 400 is a subtle reference to the 400km/h, a speed that no team within Formula 1 motor-racing has been able to reach, although the teams have been getting closer and closer to achieving this each season!
Who do you see the latest TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition model appealing to and why?
The Formula 1 Senna model is a versatile timepiece that will appeal to motorsport professionals, enthusiasts, and lovers of Formula 1 and the Brazilian driver that has inspired the model. The watch has a sporty yet sophisticated appearance, allowing this to be worn from day to night.
