Nail biting drama, exhilarating speed, tight final laps: this is the motorsport we know and love, and a sport only made possible with the most precise timekeeping.

The relationship between time and motorsport is a grand one, and timekeeping has played an essential role in racing as far back as the late 19th century, where horse-drawn carriage races were timed using pocket watches.

Of course, the sport has developed somewhat in the past one hundred years. Gone are the days when one man held a pocket watch on a finish line as a group of horses hurtled towards him; instead, in the 21st century, the sport is technical, complex, and – quite frankly – incredibly fast.

As motorsport developed into the spectacle we know and love today, the world of horology kept up and provided the finest instruments - such as dashboard timers and mechanical wristwatches - to help the drivers across the finish line.

Over the years, luxury watch giants such as Rolex, TAG Heuer, and OMEGA became synonymous with the sport and, even though drivers no longer need a timepiece to keep track of their performance and lap times, racing watches remain an enduring icon of spirited ambition and engineering excellence.

Whilst we might not all be completing a victory lap in our day-to-day lives, a racing timepiece is a statement for any occasion.

OMEGA Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial Moonwatch

This Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer model features a 44.25 mm stainless steel case and bracelet with a black ceramic bezel ring that includes the famous tachymeter scale in Liquidmetal™

On the black dial, there is a distinctive racing style minute-track which gives the watch its name. There are also two subdials with blackened applied rings as well as a 6 o’clock date window that blends with the colour of the dial. The hour and minute hands are rhodium plated while the arrowhead indexes are 18K white gold with white Super-LumiNova.

The watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9900, certified by METAS at the industry’s highest standard.

Chopard Mille Migila
