An Interview with Tom Curry, England Rugby Star and Bremont Brand Ambassador

The Watches of Switzerland Group3 minute read

As the youngest player to start an international for England in 90 years, Tom Curry had made a name for himself before he’d even hit 19.

After a breakthrough season in 2016/17, Tom made his senior bow in England’s first test against Argentina, just five days before his 19th birthday. Now as a 23-year-old flanker, he is the latest addition to Bremont’s roster of inspirational ambassadors. With a life-long love of watches and impeccable skill and determination, Tom is the perfect ambassador for Bremont, totally epitomising the brand’s iconic strapline: Tested Beyond Endurance.

Delighted to be speaking with you today and thank you so much for agreeing to take part in this interview. As the Official Timekeeper of England Rugby, it must have been fantastic to be asked to be a Brand Ambassador for Bremont. What does this mean to you?

It means a huge amount. Especially to be associated with such a prestigious brand in which their values and ambitions are aligned with mine. It’s a perfect match.

Have you always been passionate about watches? When did your love begin?

Since I can remember… my family have been obsessed with watches, starting with my dad, and then my passion has grown ever since.

What is it about Bremont that resonates with you over other luxury brands?

I love their ambition of bringing watchmaking back to the UK and I especially love the brand’s DNA of the watches being ‘tested beyond endurance,’ which aligns with me personally. The quality combined with the designs are brilliant and I feel it’s a perfect watch brand for me, whether I want to go for a run or go and have a coffee.

What Bremont timepieces do you own and do you have a particular favourite?

My favourite is my Alt1-C. I love the simple design and case size. It fits perfectly on the wrist.

How or where would you wear this watch?

I’ve actually worn my Bremont running during lockdown but I love it as my day to day watch. It’s a classic that you can do anything in.

Moving on to your exceptional rugby career, you became the youngest England forward to be capped in 100 years, to becoming England Captain. How do you remain grounded?

I think with professional sports there is always something next week to do, so the focus is always shifting and I love that about the sport. It always keeps you motivated and moving forward.

What drives you the most when stepping onto a rugby pitch?

Enjoyment. It’s the sport that I’ve loved playing since I was 3 so it is probably where I feel most at home. There’s not too much thinking other than to just trust your instincts!

Do you have any particular stand-out career moments?

Scoring my first try at the Principality Stadium. It was the first time I played there and the noise and support of the crowd is something I’ll never forget!

What do you enjoy the most about being part of a team?

Particularly for England, it’s the coming together of all different players from different teams for a common goal.

And finally, what does the next 5 years look like for Tom Curry?

Having fun! Bringing enjoyment to the game, whilst giving my best day in day out.
